Dani always did want a fairytale and now she's living one, only childhood bedtime stories were never so dark and nefarious and the Princess isn't drawn to two captivating men at the same time.
The decision should be easy, because one is spoken for, but the heart rarely concerns itself with such trivial details.

To put it mildly I really enjoy reading. I read multiple books a week and love finding the free treasures on Amazon. With that in mind, I downloaded Tethered when it was free, like I do with many 1st books of series, many times I only read the first book and think I could go without knowing what happens to the heroes involve. That is not the case with Tethered, I immediately wanted to read more.The opening of the story introduces us to Dani, who is in the process of finding out her boyfriend of three years is dumping her. She ends up running off from him and finding herself chased by unknown riders through the woods and ends up in another world. We meet Liam here and he becomes her gallant knight rescueing her. We find out Dani is special and hunted for the mark on her arm, she is also a princess. We meet Nikolas, the other one in the love triangle and I have to say, I simply love him. Unlike most love triangles Dani clearly has a favorite. Dani as the heroine is not only brave but exceedingly good hearted, she also does not whine to everyone about how hard her life is like some other YA books out there, she makes up her mind and goes for it. The ending leaves you wanting more and to find out what is happening. The only problems I found in the book where some typos but they did not distract from the story. Another fine read and I am eagerly awaiting the next installment.

Tethered spans a few genres young adult, romance, fantasy, and I think a bit of historical...though the last is a guess based on language and clothing description.
While I enjoyed the story, and recognize the book is clearly character driven, there were grammatical, spelling, timeline and point of view issues. They didn't make me put my down, but they were frequent enough to merit a better pass on edits.
I am definitely interested in reading the next installment of the Avenlore series, and yes, that's because of the swoon-worthy male yumminess and emotional connections of the heroes in Tethered.
I must say that I was pleasantly surprised when I read "Tethered" and became so engrossed with the story that I just couldn't wait for the next chapter!
So, what did I love about this story? I'm glad you asked! Ms. Van Der Hyde was able to create a beautiful world! Her descriptions were so detailed that I felt like I was watching a movie play in my head rather than just reading a book. Her characters are realistic and you immediately become invested in Dani and her plight. Oh, and I just LOVED Dani. She was the ideal heroine...strong and NOT whiney (Thank you so much!!!). Everything that was thrown at Dani gave us a chance to see how strong a character she really is. She shows strength and integrity, something that all young women need today!
Of course, I could not write a review without mentioning those wonderful men...Liam and Nikolas! This is one interesting love triangle and even though I have my clear favorite, the author gave both men qualities that any women (young or old) would love. Several scenes between Liam and Nikolas cracked me up!
The overall plot is neat and I have so many questions about what is to come. I have my fears, but I'm ready for the next chapter of Dani's journey to becoming what she has been destined to be....and if we get a little more Nikolas along the way, then that's even better! (Guess you know who my favorite is!)
The only problem with the book is several minor errors, but I've bought published books for way more money that were worse. For a self published book, it's written very well, with few errors.
If you like young adult stories mixed with a little romance and fantasy, give this new author a try...I'm sure you'll enjoy this journey! I also know that book two is in the works, so hopefully our wait will not be long!
